You had to admit, surgical robes were far from flattering, and you doubted you could ever pull them off as well as Dr. Erwin Smith did. That man could look good in anything and you knew (without a doubt and with much blushing on your part at the thought) he even looked good in nothing at all. Especially in nothing at all…

You watched him now as he prepared for surgery, scrubbing fiercely at his hands and forearms until they were red and raw. He smiled as he looked up, spotting you in the doorway in your crisp white coat.

“Come to wish me luck?”

“I wouldn’t think you needed it, Dr. Smith,” you said coolly, grinning widely as he walked over to you, his now gloved hands held awkwardly away from his body. He feigned disappointment as he gazed down at you and you felt your breath catch in your throat. Those deep blue eyes never failed to leave you breathless.

“I always need you, [Name],” he muttered, leaning in for a kiss, short and chaste – or at least that was what he intended it to be. You had other ideas, pulling him closer to deepen the kiss, leaving him as breathless as he had left you only moments before.

You smiled at his pleasantly surprised expression as you parted. Unknowingly he had wrapped you tightly in his embrace, and now he looked down at his hands forlornly and sighed.

“Damn it, now I have to wash them again…”

You giggled and gave him another short peck on the lips. “I’d better get going. Good luck!” You waved goodbye and hurried out of the prep room. As you passed the window, you saw him begin to scrub at his hands once again, grimacing as the soap stung the delicate skin. You caught his eye.

Sorry!” you mouthed through the glass, giving him an apologetic look.

He simply smiled at you, and mouthed “It was worth it”.

You laughed again and shook your head, before returning to your office to wait out the long hours until lunch.

Barely an hour had passed when someone burst into your office. Erwin’s assistant, Levi stood before you panting slightly but bearing the same calm expression he usually did. Only his grey eyes, wide and wild betrayed that something was wrong.

“Dr. [Last Name]!”

You got to your feet. “Levi, what happened?”

“It’s Dr. Smith. He collapsed during surgery.”

You tried not to let your panic show, keeping a stern mask in place to hide your distress. Still, you could not help the shaking in your voice or the quivering of your hands.

“Do we know the cause?”

“That’s what we were hoping you could tell us.”

You waited anxiously by Erwin’s bed side, fingers tearing fretfully at the crisp white sheets. Thankfully, you had made it in time and he was going to be alright. If only he would wake up…

It was growing late, the sky outside the window darkening at a surprising rate. Still he slept on, his blonde hair, usually so neat, lay tousled against the pillow and there were dark hollows beneath his eyes that you had not noticed before.

“Damn it, Erwin. You worked yourself too hard didn’t you? Why didn’t you tell me you we taking those extra shifts?”

He frowned slightly at your words, his eyelids fluttering open. Seeing you seated beside him, your grip anxiously tightening on his hand, he smiled. His smiled faltered, however, as his eyes focused and he read the anxiousness in your expression. He glanced around, taking in the hospital room and bed.

“What’s wrong, [Name]? What happened?”

You only grinned and sobbed, letting the tears you tried so hard to hold back roll freely down your face. You threw your arms around his neck, much to his surprise. You could feel his heart beating, strong and steady, and relief flooded through you.

“Stupid!” you sobbed into his shoulder. “You had me so worried!”

“Woah, hey, it’s okay. I’m okay.” He pulled you closer.

“Don’t scare me like that again.” Your voice was muffled slightly against his shoulder, but he could still hear the tremor as you spoke.

“I won’t, I promise,” he murmured in your ear, before releasing you, letting you dry your tears. You were soon back to your usual, professional self, if a bit red around the eyes.

“It’s getting late, you should get some rest. I’m putting you on bed arrest for the next few weeks.”

“I’ve been sleeping all day [Name], I think I’ve had enough rest,” he said softly. His eyes glinted mischievously. “But I wouldn’t object to staying in bed if, say, you were to join me.”

You yelped as he grasped you by the waist, surprising you by pulling you into his lap and kissing you softly, but behind his gentleness you sensed something more, the barely restrained urge to ravage you then and there.

He smirked as you broke apart, eyes shining with laughter. “So I take it you’ll be taking care of me for a while?”

“Yes I requested that you be put under my care until you recover.” You sounded slightly out of breath as you tried to retain your professionalism. Erwin only grinned, his hand sliding down to caress your rear, inciting a short gasp from you.

“I’ve never had my own private nurse before. Will you dress up for me?”

You rolled your eyes, moving to climb off of him, but he held you firmly, not letting you escape his grasp. His lips trailed up your neck to your ear, where his whispered words sent shudders through your spine.

“I’ve never done it in a hospital bed before,” he muttered.

Erwin!

He chuckled. “I’m sorry, it seems like I’m still a little out of it…” He released his grip on you and you rose to your feet, straightening your coat and fixing your slightly tousled hair.

“Get some rest. Doctor’s orders.”

He sighed heavily. “I suppose I should. Will you stay with me, Doctor?”

You hesitated, before taking of your coat, switching of the lamp by the bedside and climbing in beside him in the narrow cot. You felt his strong arms envelop you, pulling you closer into his warmth. You sighed contentedly as you felt his light kisses against your hair.

After a few minutes, a thought crossed your mind. “Erwin?”

There was only a hum in response, encouraging you to continue.

“What was so important that you had to work yourself to the point of exhaustion?”

He paused, mulling over you question before he seemed satisfied with his answer.

“You,” he said simply, but before you could ask what he meant, he had drifted off into a pleasant sleep and a dream of you, looking radiant in your white dress…
